VMware will be consolidating their six licensing packages down to three: vSphere Standard, vSphere Enterprise Plus, vSOM Enteprise Plus.
The biggest change we see, effective March 1, is the end-of-life for vSphere Enterprise. Currently, VMware is offering a 50-percent-off discount off Enterprise Plus until June 25 of this year. If you want to keep your vSphere Enterprise license for longer, you have until March 31 to order it and you can renew it up to 2020. However, you won’t get any upgrades.
vSphere Standard licensing will see a small increase effective April 1, however we’re unsure what the price increase is going to be at this time. Reach out to your VMware Value Added Reseller for updates in the coming weeks. If the price increase is a concern, consider placing your renewal/additional license orders early.
